The TOEFL® ITP helps teachers place students in appropriate English courses and assess their progress. It can also be used to evaluate programme effectiveness.
You can use the TOEFL® ITP for numerous internal decisions:
To place individuals in appropriate English courses,
To assess the progress of students, by testing language proficiency at the beginning and end of the course,
To evaluate programme effectiveness,
As exit criteria for a programme,
In awarding academic credits,
To fulfil a language requirement,
As a mock exam to indicate how students could expect to perform on the more formal TOEFL® test.
Since TOEFL® ITP test forms have been administered before, and are hence not fully secure, they should not be used in place of TOEFL® scores themselves.
