Usage of test scores
The TOEFL® ITP helps teachers place students in appropriate English courses and assess their progress. It can also be used to evaluate programme effectiveness.

You can use the TOEFL® ITP for numerous internal decisions:

  • To place individuals in appropriate English courses,
  • To assess the progress of students, by testing language proficiency at the beginning and end of the course,
  • To evaluate programme effectiveness,
  • As exit criteria for a programme,
  • In awarding academic credits,
  • To fulfil a language requirement,
  • As a mock exam to indicate how students could expect to perform on the more formal TOEFL® test.

Since TOEFL® ITP test forms have been administered before, and are hence not fully secure, they should not be used in place of TOEFL® scores themselves.
